All of the participating artists were chosen to be in this exhibition for their obsessively detailed style and meticulous ink techniques. Their favored subject matter is predominantly figurative, and all of the figures and faces portrayed are slightly twisted or distorted, invoking themes of the monster or otherness. This exhibition will showcase a collection of ink drawings that are odd, uncanny, and perhaps even a little unsettling, inviting the viewer to confront their own ideas of normalcy.

Artists showing work in NO SLEEP:

Filip Anton
http://borxaborxa.com/

Andrew Remington Bailey
http://hehasantlers.blogspot.com/

Reid James Jenkins
http://reidjamesjenkins.blogspot.com/

Peter Kalyniuk
http://www.myspace.com/peterkalyniuk

Alexandra Mackenzie
http://newphenomena.blogspot.com/

Lauren Pelc McArthur
http://opticconduit.blogspot.com/

& Joseph Thomson

Come out on April 9th and support some really amazing artists.

Curated by Andrew Remington Bailey.

Now at industtrees: Wherever You Go There You Are by Popcorny.

Now at industtrees: Wherever You Go There You Are by Popcorny.

Now at industtrees: Activization by Popcorny.

Now at industtrees: Activization by Popcorny.

Photo

Photo

Now at industtrees: 1-Bit Music by Tristan Perich.

Industtrees is excited to present a collection of installation pieces inspired by the themes of perpetual waste and sustainable design. The show is the first public installation by local Environmental Designer Ann Anna Kim.

Each of the three pieces have been created by grouping together crafted objects in a series to draw attention to society’s repetitive habits of waste and while also creating a dynamically striking visual presence. Transforming rubbish into artifacts of our excess has forced Ann to review conventional ideas of preciousness, and challenged her to see beauty in what others throw away.

The Spoon Family is made from discarded hardwood scraps. It is a representation of our relationship to food, how we create excess, and waste the perfectly useful.

Tealights are made from off cuts of steel. They require little material and energy to make, and are a study in texture. The inspiration in this set was momentum, and how the repetitive use of a very small gesture can be as impactful as a massive form.

Bathroom Art was inspired by, of all things, a Chris Rock comedy bit. He observed how even though there are people in the world dying of thirst and the consumption of contaminated water, we wash ourselves everyday with perfectly good drinking water. Each tiny vial holds a small amount of clean drinking water that was then used to wash something. Who knows, one day these vials might be worth more for their water than for their artistic value.

Repetition will be on display from Friday February 19th until Thursday April 1st, 2010. Please join us for the opening reception, starting at 8PM this Friday.
